PRACTICE LISTENING

On this page we can see a lot of Podcast and Listening Downloads , I choose alcohol abuse. It is very interesting because they talk about the difference between binge drinking and just plain old getting drunk. Binge drinking is a period of time when a person would continue to drink alcohol to such an extent that he or she would abandon their usual activities such as work or, in the case of younger drinkers classes. Finally they mention that the culture of drinking in the UK is very different from other countries like France, Spain or Italy. In most mainland European countries children grow up seeing alcohol consumed slowly the odd beer on a sunny afternoon. In the UK, go out to the pubs and up until recently the pubs all closed at eleven on the dot. So you drink as fast as you can so that by the time eleven comes around you aren’t left feeling like another drink.

ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY - GLOBALIZATION

Globalization refers to a set of processes that increase and make the parts of the world interdependently integrated. It is a historical process, the result of human innovation and technological progress. It refers to increasing integration of economies around the world, particularly through trade and financial flows. Many people view globalization in different ways. Some view it as a process that is beneficial a key to future world economic development and also inevitable and irreversible.

Some view it with hostility, even fear, believing that it increases inequality within and between nations, threatens employment and living standards. Globalization offers extensive opportunities for truly worldwide development but it is not progressing evenly. Some countries are becoming integrated into the global economy more quickly than others. Globalization can be looked at from five different aspects; economically, technologically, politically, culturally and environmentally.

Economically, globalization has been greatly encouraged since the Second World War, with the introduction of free trade agreements additionally; regional trade agreements have also been developed. On the other hand, technologically, the Information technology revolution has resulted in massive improvements in communication, through faxes, email, and the internet. These improvements have resulted in the world becoming a smaller place as world-wide interaction is both quick and easy.

Some view globalization as being inevitable and key to our economic future. It has the potential of making societies richer through trade, and creates knowledge and understanding to people around the world. On the other side, people believe it increases inequality within and between nations. I believe that globalization will only advance our world and make us more unified.

To sum up, globalization effects just about everything and everyone. Nowadays, globalization has impacted technology and helped our community become more modern with internet practice and communications. An increase in foreign residents has become the norm in our local area, and local businesses have begin to outsource jobs to remain competitive.

ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY - LEADERSHIP

Nowadays people have to develop their skills or tactics that can open up their road to success and to be a good leader. They are many factors that can contribute to a good leadership. So, if you are not a good leader naturally, don't worry, you can learn it.

One of those factors of a good leadership is communication. Communication is one of the most key elements, because if you are a good communicator, you can express your ideas and thoughts in a convincing way. And as a consequence, you can persuade people to fulfill their different goals and dreams. Therefore, good communication skills need to be learned effectively.

Nevertheless motivation is another variable that plays into a good leadership. People tend to give the best of their selves when there is a lot of motivation. People can be motivated by different forces such as beliefs, values, interests, fear, and worthy causes. Some of those forces are internal, such as needs, interests, and beliefs. Others are external, such as danger, the environment, or pressure from a loved one. A person's motivation is a combination of desire and energy directed at achieving a goal. Influencing someone's motivation means getting them to want to do what you know must be done.

On the other hand, in almost every situation where you are in a group, you need a skilled leader. Groups without leaders or with a weak leader tend to break down. Hence, leaders have to know the skills that theirs teamwork have, recognized them and use the potential to their benefit.

To sum up, leadership is an ability that some people have. Nevertheless, you can learn how to be a good leader, if you want it. You can take different training courses, you can develop different skills and techniques to improve a range of qualities which are necessary to be a good leader like good communication, motivation and learn how to work in teamwork. Without those characteristics you can't be a good leader, and therefore, you can't persuade people to achieve goals and dreams.

ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY - MOBILE PHONES

Nowadays all people use mobile phones. Some people buy them thinking in all the advantages, but ignoring the risks. Mobile phones changed the world. As we live in a consumption society, we like to spend and spend money, and sometimes, we don’t think in disadvantages and risks.

Publicity is the main channel for the cell phone companies to sell. For example advertising show mobile phone promotions on the TV and young people watch it and download very expensive things like wallpapers, sound and games. Even if they know that they don’t need all these things, they want them, because they want to be cool.

Nevertheless mobile phones are very practical when you have an emergency call; because you don’t have to wait until you get home to use the phone or you don’t have to arrive in a store to use the phone. With your cell phone you can call in anywhere place. Although many people use others functions of the cell phones like clock, games and sometimes a MP3 player. So when you are in a bus and you have to wait for a long time, you can play games or listen to music.

On the other hand, cell phones transmitted radiation, so that helps to develop illness like cancer. People carry their own mobile phones very near to the body ignoring that they use electromagnetic radiation
in the microwave range. As a consequence, some people believe this may be harmful to the human health. These concerns have induced a large number of research programs.
